Movie Review: Julie and Julia

Finally watched this over the weekend, and what a joy! If you love food and blogging... this movie's for you. It tells parallel stories, weaving together two separate books: "My Life in France", by Julia Child, and "Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously", by Julie Powell.

It's the story of a young woman, Julie ~ somewhat at odds with herself ~ deciding to cook her way through Julia Child's entire first cookbook: Mastering the Art of French Cooking ~ while also telling the story of Julia's years in Paris, where she first learned to cook, and began her cookbook writing career.

Beautifully told story. The men in both of their lives are likewise wonderful.
I figure *this* is a blogging community, and *needs* to know about this movie! Enjoy!!!

Five stars ~ a classic in the making.

SPOILER ALERT (minor)

And one more time... to avert your eyes... before you see:
They show the entire Dan Aykroyd skit of him doing Julia Child on SNL! :-D

Haven't seen it yet, but really want to. Thanks!

Regarding the SNL skit: the censors had made the writers change some of the scheduled skits that night because they were deemed too sexual. But depicting blood and violence was ok. The writers came up with both the Bass-O-Matic and the Julia Childs sketches instead.

I remember, because that was the night I talked Mom into staying up and watching this "great" new comedy show. About half-way through the Julia one, she'd had enough, pronounced it all "sick", said she didn't know why I watched such horrible stuff, and went to bed.

Finally got to see the movie. The scene where Julie is toasting bread for bruschetta in a frying pan made me really want to go make myself a batch.
